League Features
Men's 18+ Competitive League
-10 competitive level teams - college/pro experience
-8 recreational level teams - high school experience
Men's 39+ League (maximum 18 teams)
- Teams must have a minimum of 7 players on your roster.
- Team captain registers online and pays the team fee (this does NOT include the jersey). Once the captain completes the team registration and pays the team fee, he will send out invites to each player he wants to add to his roster. Make sure you let your team know whether you are purchasing jerseys and what color to order. Players on your team can register and order a jersey once you send them a team code (see instructions on how to send team code below).
- Team Captain Needs to Send Invite Code - once the Captain has completed the team registration, log into your account and click on the icon in the top right hand corner. A drop down menu will come up, click on Account. This will take you to your Team Page, on the team page click Roster. On the Roster page you can send out invites to players on your team, you will need their email. Once you send out the invite, players can click on that invite and register for your team. They can purchase a jersey during that registration process, be sure to let them know what color to purchase.
- Your team must have matching uniforms with reversible jersey and numbers on both sides (no derogatory or inappropriate names on jerseys)
- Every player registers online for free once they receive the team code invite from their captain. Players will pay the captain for the team fee. Jerseys may be purchased ($30) during individual player registration. (See “Game Uniforms” below.)
- Free Agents without a team will be put on a waiting list, you will not complete registration until I am sure you will have a team to join. If you do not have a team, please e-mail Elgin Hollins at ehollins@prestonwood.org. In the email, include your age and preferred division. Jeff will send you an invite if and when a team is found for you. Free Agent Players are assigned to teams in the order that they email me. If enough players are on the waiting list, a new team with those players will be formed if one player agrees to be the captain.
- Throughout the season, find all league standings, scores, schedules, bulletins and other information at: psosports.com
- We will have open gym on regular game nights the week before games begin for players who are registered in the league. We will play pickup games on two courts using our lunchtime basketball rules.
- Guaranteed 7 games
- Top 8 teams in each division will make the playoffs and play down to a league champion via a single elimination bracket that will be seeded according to league standings. We reserve the right to adjust the playoff format. See below for the adjustment in the 18+ League.
Game Uniforms
- Matching team jerseys are required in this league, jerseys must have reversible colors and numbers on both sides. If your team needs reversible jerseys, the team registration fee does NOT include jerseys. Teams/Players who need a jersey may purchase one ($30) during player registration. Jersey color, numbers and sizes for each player may be selected during registration. Check with your captain on the jersey color so all players will have the same color jersey.
- Teams may choose to wear their own uniform if approved by the PSO Basketball Director. (No derogatory names or sponsors since we are a church league)
- Players who register after jerseys have been ordered are not guaranteed to get their jersey by the first game.
- Jerseys are reversible, with a white side and a colored side. PSO logos will be similar to last year and the same on each team's jerseys. The color chart below may not be exact but gives the captain an idea of the colors that are available to choose from for the jersey.
Season Schedule
- Open gym for registered players will be the week before games begin. Format will be the same as our lunchtime format.
- The 5 on 5 season includes an 7-week regular season of 1-2 games per week at 7:00, 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. (These times may change depending on the number of teams.)
- Top 8 teams are included in the post-season single elimination playoffs. Playoff games may be scheduled on any day of the week (including weekends) in order to get all of the games played in a timely manner. The online standings will be used for the seeding of the tournament.
- In the event that inclement weather causes the cancellation of games, we will do our best not to change the tournament dates. Regular season games may be rescheduled for any day. Games will be rescheduled on the first available date. If games are cancelled due to inclement weather, we will do our best to guarantee 7 regular season games.
Playoffs
Seeding Rules and Brackets are on the playoff page.
Fees
- 5-on-5 has a $625 team fee.
- The team fee is paid by the captain online during the captain (head coach) registration.
Rules
Our 5 on 5 League uses NCAA rules except where noted on the rules sheet.
Click here for the Adult Basketball rules (rules may be modified up to the start of the league). Foul language and poor attitudes will not be tolerated in this league. Issues of this nature could cause ejection from the league without a refund. Teams who do not meet together following the game to discuss the devotion provided by the league will be removed from the league without a refund. Only players on your official roster will be allowed to play.
Leadership
A League Coordinator is needed for each league to oversee the league and provide consistent communication with the PSO staff on any issues that arise during the season.
A team captain is needed for each team who will be responsible for:
- Communicating with the players about the schedule, rules and any information from the PSO staff or the League Coordinator.
- Coordinating the substitution pattern during games.
- Leading the post game "Iron Time" devotion.
- Leading the prayer (or enlisting a member of the team to lead the prayer) with both teams prior to the start of the game (home-team captain is responsible for the pre-game prayer).
- Enlisting someone (other than a player in the game) to keep either the scorebook or the clock for each game. There should be both a scorebook keeper and a clock keeper (one provided by each team's captain) for each game at the score table at least 10 minutes prior to the game.
- Enlisting a prayer partner (can be a player on the team or someone else) who will commit to praying for the team and the league and coordinate prayer requests for that team.
The League Coordinator and the team captains are usually players in the league. Anyone interested in being a League Coordinator or team captain should contact Elgin Hollins at [email protected].
Captains
Team Captains must maintain control of their team. Game officials will have the right to stop a game at any time and declare a forfeit if players are out of control. Captains will be responsible for leading game day devotions. If you would like to be a team captain, please contact Elgin Hollins by e-mail at ehollins@prestonwood.org.
